How to Handle A Confused Gay

Sexual orientation is a part of one's sexual personality. It takes a good amount of time to explore your sexuality and needs courage to admit that you are a gay. A common dilemma that a gay faces is whether there are other individuals in the society who share the same sense of feelings as he does. There is a strong revulsion from the society including the family and friends, who try to convert a gay into a straight. Lack of support from the society can further worsen the problem than to solve it. There is an existing misconception in the society that the perceptions of a gay individual can be altered altogether, which is rarely the case.

The stage of confusion arises when parents try to act smart enough and insist the young man to get married to someone from the opposite sex. It is virtually not possible to keep aside the gay sentiments and marry a girl and undertake a life long commitment. This would probably ruin the lives of two individuals leading to bitter relationship and life long frustrations. The wise parents would instead support their son and not force their ideals on him. Confusion also arises when the individual is aroused by both the sexes, making it a difficult task to stick to one of the sexes. A confused gay needs a good counselor who can understand his concern and provide a valid solution to bring an end to his confused state of mind. Until and unless there is clarity on this issue, the individual might suffer from depression and behave in an unacceptable manner. The best option is to clarify the issue as soon as possible.

There has been a rise in the mental and emotional trauma along with respiratory diseases that the young gays have to face in lack of support of their sentiments. Gays feel dominated by the straight world and this fear forces them to curb their desires despite of the fact that there are numerous magazines that answer the queries of confused gay individuals. The feeling of belonging to a minority group has its own disadvantages and seldom does one want to be a part of the weaker side. Why not make this world a better place to live in for one and all, irrespective of the sexual preferences? After all, we are all born free and no one has the right to change an individual's perception as per his or her will.
